High Performance Pool

In the history of Sri Lankan sports, the achievements at the Olympic Games on behalf of our motherland are limited to the silver medal won by Mr. Duncan White in the 400m hurdles in the London Olympics in 1948 and the silver medal won by Mrs. Susanthika Jayasinghe in the 200m event in the Sydney Olympics 2000. Subsequently, Sri Lankan Sportsmen and sportswomen have consistently represented the Olympic Games, however they were unable to showcase significant talent.

But time to time, Sri Lankan sportsmen and sportswomen were participated to the Asian Games, the Asian Para Games and the Commonwealth Games and won medals. The main objective is to identify Sportsmen and Sportswomen who have demonstrated outstanding performance and who may have Olympic aspirations in the future through providing them with the necessary financial and other facilities with the aim of winning medals along with the ‘Mission Olympics 2028 – Journey to the Rings Programme’. This is expected to enhance and maintain continuously the talent level of the sportspersons by referring the sportspersons who may have Olympic aspirations for local and international training programs providing a specialized training under local and foreign trainers and providing nutritional allowances.

Obtaining six monthly reports on the development of the talents and performance of the sportspersons and obtaining recommendations from the National Sports Selection Committee, the National Sports Council and the Department of Sports Development once every six months when making payments and based on those recommendations entering into contract with sportspersons by identifying those who are capable of achieving Olympic achievements.

For the payment of allowances under the provisions allocated annually for the talent development program of the Department of Sports Development.

        2.If the sportsperson is training in a foreign country,

 

  • Payment for the subsistence and training activities of the sportsperson for a period of three months only, subject to a maximum of Rs. 1,000,000/= monthly.
  • Payment for the local or foreign trainer in a foreign country for a period of three months only, subject to a maximum of Rs. 1,000,000/= monthly.
  • If a foreign trainer conducts training activities in Sri Lanka, the foreign trainer will be paid for three months only, subject to a maximum of Rs. 2,000,000/= monthly.
